Rachel Clara Reed is a photojournalist and documentary filmmaker. Originally from Seattle, she is currently based between Nairobi, Kenya and Mexico City. Her work experience includes shooting and editing documentaries, non-fiction television, and branded content as well as producing multimedia packages. Her work has taken her to Sudan, Somalia, Somaliland, Uganda, Tanzania, and India, and from Kakuma Refugee Camp in northern Kenya to small villages on the coast of Kenya. She contributes to outlets including The New York Times, BBC, Al Jazeera, CNN, and News Deeply. Her film Somali Night Fever, published on The Guardian, tells the story of Somalia's golden era of music through the stories of two former bandmates and best friends who lost touch during the country's civil war. Her short film Amarapura, about Buddhist extremism in Myanmar, won Newcomer Short Documentary for the IAFOR Documentary Film Award & Festival 2016 and an Award of Excellence for Content/Message Delivery from the Depth of Field Film Festival. |
