I am Willi Effenberger, freelance Photojournalist from Berlin.
One of my main fields of work was Turkey, where I covered different social struggles over several years. However, since the attemted coup of July 2015 I have not been back due to security concerns. Also, my travels took me to the external borders of the European Union in Bulgaria, where I accompanied a group of German activists, I have been in Lebanon to get a better picture of the situation of Syrian refugees in the improvised camps in Bekaa-Valley and I visited Iraqi Kurdistan There I went to the Qandil mountains, the "headquarter" of the Workers Party of Kurdistan (PKK) and visited the frontlines of the Peshmerga and the PKK-guerilla in the fight against the so called "Islamic State".
