Gavin John is a photojournalist and documentary photographer. He studied at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and has a diploma in Journalism with a major in photojournalism. He also is completing his second degree of International Relations with a focus on Middle Eastern Affairs and a minor in Arabic Language and Muslim Culture at the University of Calgary. His passion for finding the best in people in the worst of places has drawn him to working in conflict and crisis zones for the past three years.

Some of the notable stories he has worked on include:

- The Canadian Forces deployment to the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 in Operation Renaissance.
- Covered daily life in Pyongyang, North Korea in 2014.
- Reported from the front lines in Iraq on the Peshmerga's war against the Islamic State in 2014.
- Documented the Canadian Forces northern sovereignty Operation Nunalivut in Resolute, Canada alongside American and Danish forces in 2015.
- Covered the recapture of Mosul from the Islamic State in 2016.

Gavin works as a freelancer has been featured by many international media organizations that include CBC, The Globe and Mail, Postmedia,The Guardian, FoxNews, and Macleans Magazine.
