I am an award-winning freelance journalist, photographer and foreign correspondent based in Cape Town, South Africa, who has worked in the media industry since 2002. Born in The Netherlands (1977), I grew up in Angola and Rwanda. This is where my passion for Africa was born, hence why I moved to South Africa in 2004. Before I relocated, I traveled and lived abroad for many years. The countries on my list include Canada, China, Turkey, Tunisia, Ghana, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda, Gabon. the US (Michigan, New York) and Israel. I moved to South Africa in 2004. Education wise, I have degrees in journalism (2000), American Studies (2004) and International Development Studies (2004). All were obtained at Universities in The Netherlands. My journalism career started in 2002, when a Dutch national newspaper hired me as one of their business reporters. I was studying American Studies and International Development Studies in Amsterdam at the time. I went freelance in 2007 and since then I have worked for over 45 clients (publications, NGOs, corporates, government institutions).
