Ella Carman is an ethnological photojournalist whose desire to give the most vulnerable and discriminated groups and individuals in society an opportunity to share their lived experiences through documentary photography and personal testimonies. Often connected to a social issue affecting the lives of the most marginalised, the stories Ella sensitively documents aim to educate and break down stereotypes and prejudices which she believes are preventative and counterproductive to social progress and empowerment. Always objective, Ella appreciates the value in all human experiences and walks of life, finding inspiration from all aspects of daily life’s challenges and successes.
A diverse and experienced photographer, Ella enjoys commercial and corporate commissions as well as studio shoots.
Notable clients include NHS Liaison & Diversion Service, Place Prospectors CIC, The New Economic Foundation, The Health Creation Alliance and Crisis. Ongoing documentary work covering sensitive social issues has lead Ella to develop her journalistic skills further through studying ‘Trauma Reporting’* and ‘Mental Health First Aid’*. She works closely with organisations and communities to build trust, commitment and expertise within her practice.
