Thanks for visiting my website. I am Cliff Cheng, Freelance Photojournalist and Documentary Filmmaker based in Los Angeles. I shoot general assignment and sports. I am with the KLC Photo Agency. Recently I have been shooting for the Culver City News, Culver City Observer, Blue Pacific News, Los Angeles Observer.... In sports, I have been covering the Los Angeles Galaxy, Los Angeles Sparks, AVP, South Bay Lakers, UCLA Womens Basketball, USC Womens Basketball.... During this Time of Corona, I am making a documentary on the rise of COVID-19 racial scapegoating and hate incidents/crimes against Asians.

Journalism is our family business. My Father was a Newspaper Man; UPI War Correspondent and later an Editor-in-Chief. My Mother was the Society Page Editor. My Uncle was also a Photojournalist.

I have spent a quarter-century in stills and spots in various jobs. I dropped out of Photo School to work in labs. I knew how to do a range of jobs in an analog still photography lab including processing, printing and slide duplication.
In my first period in photojournalism, I did stringer work for the Associated Press and others. My favorite assignment was photographing Elizabeth Taylor. I also worked at Samy's Camera when it started out and helped start their Rental Department. From there I moved on to become an Assistant Photographer to Commercial and Editorial Photographers, as well as a Wedding Photographer. I was one of the three busiest Assistants in LA. As Assistant I worked with about 90 different still photographers and later when I moved into TV commercial production I worked with 2 dozen Directors as Assistant Director, Unit Production Manager and later Producer.

I am a member of the Press Photographers of Greater Los Angeles (PPAGLA) and the Asian-American Journalist Association (AAJA).
I did continue my education in cinema and photography while working and earned degrees: A.A. (Film Production), M.A. (Critical Cinema Studies), M.A. (Play and Screenwriting), and M.F.A. (Photography and Video). My conversion to digital was done over a few years. I continue to learn and develop to this day.
