Security is an issue we all take seriously. The difference is that if an independent journalist gets kidnapped or killed, he or she will most likely be labelled as ‘an irresponsible daredevil'. If a staffer from a large organisation is kidnapped, he or she will most likely get television interviews and praise for ‘risking it all' to get the story.

The FFR is all about democracy. Our new annual Board of Representatives 2015-16 has just been voted in.

Journalists worldwide face harassment, adversity and the threat of injury or death in their pursuit of the truth. As many journalists will emphasise, preparation is one of the most important aspects of reporting, particularly when in dangerous environments. As we know, the past few years have seen a dramatic increase in attacks on  journalists, with 45% of all deaths since 1992 occurring in the last five years.
