I am a Beirut-based freelance news and features writer, focusing on Syria and Lebanon. I have particular interests in internment, security, displaced populations and cultural heritage. I have written news and features for Al Jazeera, the BBC, The Telegraph, Middle East Eye, and NewStatesman.co.uk. Until March 2016 I worked at The Telegraph newspaper in London. I have undertaken hostile environment training and have reported from Lebanon, south Turkey, and Greece, among others. I speak fluent French and have lived in Paris and southern Morocco. I am learning Arabic at present and have intermediate written and spoken language skills in Syrian-Lebanese dialect and Modern Standard Arabic.
