Jan Schmidt-Whitley graduated from Paris-based photojournalism school EMI-CFD in 2015 and started working as a photojournalist on that date. Having earlier graduated from a business school in 1999, Jan worked mainly in the field of international development and public health. For taste and for professional reasons, he has had to live and work in many countries such as Turkey, Egypt, Sudan and Burundi. He is currently based between France (Paris) and Turkey (Diyarbakir, Istanbul). He is interested in Turkish politics and documents some parts of civil society since the Gezi events of summer 2013 and was injured during the Suruç bombing while preparing a subject on Kobane (Syria) during the summer 2015. He is also working to better understand the Turkish diaspora in France.
