Emily Thomas
Emily is a documentary filmmaker and journalist based in Oakland, California, who creates meaningful and moving visual stories that connect strangers, communities, and countries around the globe. Her most recent film, Blessings of Liberty, about two Iraqi Christian families in Detroit who face a death sentence if deported back to Iraq, was nominated for Best Short at the 2019 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and screened at festivals around the country; it was acquired by Ryot Films and PBS stations across the midwest for air in summer 2020. She has been a part of projects for Jigsaw Productions, Netflix, Al Jazeera, and the Huffington Post from story development to the camera department. She is a graduate of UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism. She is also Co-Chair and programmer of the Video Consortium's Bay Area chapter. |
